May 2025 Student of the Month

The Freedom Scientific Student of the Month Program features K-12 students living in the U.S. who are blind or visually impaired and use Freedom Scientific technology to achieve educational goals. The Student of the Month for May 2025 is Jesús, a senior from Arizona.

Meet Jesús our May 2025 Student of the Month

Jesús began using JAWS in the 8th grade, and said it helped him when his vision changed and became blurry. “I struggled with reading print on paper and writing assignments. My TVI taught me to navigate with JAWS and use keyboard commands.”

Jesús enjoys writing scary stories, some of which were published in Cactus, his school newspaper. “A lot of people really liked them. Getting them in the paper was a good experience.”

After graduating, Jesús plans to go to college and major in Audio Production Technology. After college, he wants to get a job as a professional disc jockey. As he explains, his interest in music comes from his family. “My uncle was a DJ, so I got interested after watching him work. Last year, I got to DJ prom. I used DJ software with JAWS, and it was an amazing experience.”

Jesús encourages others who are blind or visually impaired to use JAWS, ZoomText, or Fusion. “If you’re like me and you like to write stories, it will help with that. You can also do research online and use different types of software. Just give it a try.”
