April 2025 Student of the Month

The Freedom Scientific Student of the Month Program features K-12 students living in the U.S. who are blind or visually impaired and use Freedom Scientific technology to achieve educational goals. The Student of the Month for April 2025 is Cameron, a high school junior from Arizona.

Meet Cameron our April 2025 Student of the Month

Cameron began using JAWS in the first grade on a computer in the school’s computer lab. “I was fascinated by how JAWS talked and read everything. After that, I wanted a computer of my own!”

Cameron uses JAWS with refreshable braille to complete assignments in and outside the classroom. “I mainly use both together in Microsoft Word and when using Buzz,” he says, “which is where I access online class work.”

One of Cameron’s favorite subjects in school is science. He also enjoys working with computers both at school and at home. “I have six computers, built between 1991 to 2023,” he says. “I have different JAWS versions installed on each of them, including a version of JAWS for DOS.”

After graduating from high school, Cameron plans to pursue a career in technology. He wants to work for a computer company like Microsoft or Intel. JAWS makes it possible, allowing him to navigate and customize computers. “I think JAWS is a great screen reader,” he says, “and that’s why I use JAWS as my default screen reader on every computer.”
