Thank you to everyone who shared feedback about our user registration process over the past several weeks. Many of you told us the original flow felt longer or more personal than necessary. We listened, and we’ve already made significant improvements to make registration quicker, clearer, and more comfortable for all users.
Here’s a reminder of what is changing and why.
Why We Use Accounts
User accounts allow us to offer modern, secure features that improve your experience with JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion. With an authenticated account, we can support:
- Consistent settings across devices
- More personalized experiences
- Improved reliability and troubleshooting
- Future cloud-connected and AI-assisted features
These capabilities mirror what most modern software platforms rely on today to deliver a seamless cross-device experience.
What’s New in the Registration Experience
A shorter, easier sign-up
We removed unnecessary steps so you can get started faster. To create an account, you now only need to provide:
- An email address
- First and last name
- A password (or Google sign-in)
- A simple age confirmation
- Country
All other questions are optional.
Simplified age confirmation
Instead of entering a birth month and year, users now select one of three statements:
- I am younger than 13
- I am at least thirteen and younger than 18
- I’m older than 18
This helps us meet global youth-privacy laws, especially around AI features, while keeping the process quick. Users under 18 continue to have full access to JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion. Certain AI features may be limited where required by law.
Optional means optional
Questions about how or where you use the software can help us improve the product, but you are not required to answer them to complete registration.
Why These Updates Matter
Less friction
The new process significantly reduces the time to sign in and eliminates several required fields.
Privacy and transparency
We collect only what is needed to meet legal requirements and support your account.
To be clear:
- We do not sell your information.
- We do not use your data for advertising.
- We use your information only to deliver and support your product experience.
A foundation for future improvements
A secure, streamlined account helps us deliver new capabilities, like syncing settings, personalized experiences, and future AI-driven enhancements, safely and efficiently.
How We Protect Your Data
Your account information is safeguarded using security standards common across leading technology providers:
- Encrypted in transit and at rest
- Stored in AWS data centers
- Protected by firewalls, WAF, and intrusion-detection systems
- Accessed only under strict, audited controls
