Module 4 of Training for Teachers and AT Instructors

The fourth module in our JAWS training series for teachers and AT instructors is now posted on our Teaching Resources page. Each module in the series builds on the last, and is comprised of task-based lessons, videos, and a quiz.

Overview of Previous Modules

Module 1 introduces you to the training and provides valuable resources. Learn how to:

  • Empower your students who are blind or low vision.
  • Navigate the Freedom Scientific Online Training Center.
  • Access JAWS training in DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) format.
  • Access the Freedom Scientific online webinars and recorded archives.
  • Watch training videos on the Freedom Scientific YouTube Training Channel.
  • Locate accessible typing tutors and teach students basic document navigation.

Module 2 includes:

  • Options for starting JAWS
  • How to use the JAWS Startup Wizard
  • How to create folders

Module 3 introduces you to FSReader and shows you how to:

  • Navigate the JAWS Basic Training in FSReader
  • Play/pause content in FSReader
  • Use bookmarks in FSReader
  • Search for text in FSReader
  • Download and install JAWS Basic Training materials
  • Explore the training Table of Contents

What’s in Module 4?

Module 4, Read and Edit Text with JAWS, provides commands for reading and editing text, plus introduces you to cursors used by JAWS. You will learn how to:

  • Perform basic desktop and laptop reading commands
  • Use the PC, JAWS, and Virtual PC cursors
  • Perform mouse commands when the JAWS cursor is active
  • Select, copy, and paste text using the Windows Clipboard
  • Use the FSClipboard
  • Select text and images on web pages
  • Work with error messages virtualized in JAWS

This module is interactive, and includes a fun practice exercise that requires you to unscramble jumbled text.
